At first, when I saw Boyfriend I was ecstatic. They were so cute, and their song was pretty good. So as a new fan I checked them out, and tried to get to know the members. Maybe only three videos in, I was irritated. ‘Better than ****!’ ‘Best group ever!’ I saw someone comment ‘BETTER THAN SHINEE’. I was upset, because SHINee is my inspiration. Their first song I listened to was Replay.Then they compared them to other K-Pop groups like Super Junior and that was when I became furious. How can you so easily like these boys better than the other groups who’ve worked so hard? I know, they’re cute, TOO cute (too much for me, and that’s something.).
Anyways, I think I am getting off topic, sorry. Please do not get offended with the rest of what I’m going to say. I hate how so many fans push away their previous favorites for a rookie group like this. Sure, it’s perfectly fine to like/love them, I like them kind of, too. However, saying stuff like those two twins are better dancers than Taemin, do NOT even get me started. Boyfriend better singers? Shoot me, have you heard Onew’s and Jonghyun’s powerful voices? I’m not a fan of rapping, and I still will get very angered if anyone compared Minho to whoever raps for Boyfriend. Boyfriend is not as good as SHINee, not better, but you can’t say they’re bad. They are rookies so they will most likely improve, and I will be waiting and watching to see just how much. SHINee worked very hard, and I am not being biased because in my opinion I am a pretty open-minded person. The fake cuteness, it’s horrible and completely repulsing. I love cute stuff, but not people who try to hard for it. Seeing Minho from SHINee act cute, I didn’t like but I wasn’t mad or anything because Minho does not overuse aeygo (Is this spelled wrong?). Boyfriend tries way too hard, it’s suffocating. Of course I do think Boyfriend has potential, and I’m interested in seeing how they progress over the years. They’re good dancers, good singers, they have good-ish looks that will hopefully improve as they get older. Anyways, as of now, SHINee is way beyond Boyfriend and there is no possibility of them being rivals. SHINee broke the record selling most copies of Replay and Hello in Japan. Maybe in the future, they will become rivals. As of now, please think about it.
